EU Agricultural Delegation visit Moredun to Learn about Animal Health Issues.

The members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development were on a two day fact finding visit to Scotland and were keen to visit Moredun Research institute, which leads the world in its work in the infectious diseases of small ruminants, to learn more about it's work,

The delegation were met by MRI Director Professor Julie Fitzpatrick and met a number of Moredun’s scientists during their visit, who supplied summaries of some of Moredun’s current work on vaccine development as well as a variety of animal health issues of European importance.
 
Professor Julie Fitzpatrick was delighted that the delegation chose to visit Moredun: "The EU Agriculture and Rural Development Committee plays a key role in future policy decisions and we welcome this opportunity to keep them informed of our research".
 
Speaking at a press conference at the end of the visit, Alyn Smith MEP, Scotland’s only full member of the EU Agriculture Committee, said: “Agriculture is extremely important to the Scottish economy and Moredun’s work is essential in supporting agricultural industry both now and in the future.” He added, “We are extremely impressed with the work that is conducted at Moredun. Farmers must realise that by using Moredun’s science they can save money and produce more efficient animals.”

During their stay in Scotland the delegation also visited a dairy farm, a hill sheep farm, visited the Scottish Crop Research institute in Dundee and met with Minister for Environment Roseanna Cunningham and the Scottish Parliament Committee on Agriculture and Environment.
