knowledgescotland Goes To The Heart Of Government
knowledgescotland’s third Open House event was held at the Scottish Government’s Victoria Quay offices in Edinburgh on 12th August. Over 30 Scottish Government staff attended the two hour drop-in session which provided an opportunity to meet with researchers working on a wide range of topics.
Posters and information were provided on a range of topics including cost-effective greenhouse gas reduction in agriculture, integrating farmer and crofter culture into biodiversity related land use policies, the National Planning Framework, and cryptosporidium parasites and cryptosporidiosis. A video presentation also showcased recent work that exploits photography to explore land use change over time.
The aim of this event was to break down the researcher – policymaker – stakeholder divides by getting researchers to visit and talk with policymakers in an informal setting. The aim is to make it easy for policymakers to engage with researchers and to facilitate a two-way exchange of information. The posters and supporting material remained in Victoria Quay after the event so that Scottish Government staff who did not manage to attend could view the material at their leisure.
